Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., commonly known as KKR, is a leveraged buyout-centered private equity business that supports and administers investment funds. Since its foundation, it has accomplished about $400 billion of business transactions and was considered as one of the leading leveraged buyout firms in the industry.
KKR was developed in 1976 by cousins Henry Kravis and George Roberts, together with their mentor, Jerome Kohlberg Jr. The three founders used to work together at Bear Sterns. There, they completed one of the first leveraged buyout transactions.
Since its inception, the company has achieved numerous breakthrough transactions; of which one of the most talked about was the RJR Nabisco leveraged buyout in 1989. It was considered as the biggest buyout at that time. Another significant transaction took place in 2007 in the form of the TXU buyout, which is the largest buyout accomplished by any firm up to this day.
Some of the industries Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. has assisted include technology, chemicals, retail, industrial, media and communications, monetary services, energy and natural resources, consumer goods, and health care.
Headquartered at the Solow Building, New York City, KKR has ten additional offices in the United States, Asia and Europe; specifically in Washington, Houston, Menlo Park, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Sydney, Tokyo, Beijing, London and Paris.
